Honest Review- Is the $2.30 CU Double Bulgogi Teriyaki Burger Actually Good?

Welcome back to Slurp & Stream! When hunger strikes unexpectedly in Korea, the local convenience store is always the ultimate savior. Today, I swung by a CU convenience store and picked up the “Double Bulgogi Teriyaki Burger.”

Priced at exactly 3,000 KRW (roughly $2.30 USD), it’s definitely not a bad deal considering recent inflation. But the real question is: does the taste justify the cheap price tag? I immediately popped it in the microwave for 1 minute to find out!

🍔 First Impressions: Expectation vs. Reality

The moment I tore open the packaging, I have to admit… there was a bit of a disconnect from the appetizing photo on the wrapper. 😅

Because it proudly claims to be a “Double” burger, I was expecting a massive, thick stack. Instead, the visual was honestly a little flimsy. However, after exactly 60 seconds in the microwave, a rich, sweet, and savory Bulgogi aroma filled the air, which definitely triggered my appetite!

🥩 Taste & Texture: Where is the “Double” Bite?

Let’s get into the most crucial part—the taste test.

  • The Patty: They call it a double patty, but it completely lacks that heavy, substantial bite that fills your mouth. The texture is extremely weak; it’s the kind of soft, processed meat that just slides down your throat. If you love a hearty, meaty chew in your burgers, you will be disappointed.
  • The Sauce: Even though “Teriyaki” is in the name, the actual flavor profile leans heavily toward the standard, familiar sweet Korean BBQ (Bulgogi) sauce you find in most convenience store snacks. The unique, deep umami of teriyaki only makes a brief cameo.
  • The Bun: After a minute in the microwave, the bread went past the point of being “moist” and landed straight into “soggy” territory. If you eat Korean convenience store burgers often, you exactly know this classic mushy bread texture!

🥬 The Biggest Letdown: “Where Did the Veggies Go?”

The most glaring omission in this burger is the complete lack of crunch. There is virtually no lettuce, no pickles, and no onions to speak of. You are essentially just eating soft bread and soft meat. Without any crisp vegetables to break up the texture, eating it becomes a bit monotonous.

💡 Final Verdict: A Quick Fix for a Tight Wallet

Overall, the flavor isn’t overly salty, greasy, or offensive, making it an incredibly easy snack to just inhale in three bites.

However, this is absolutely not gourmet quality. It’s not something you go out of your way to find.

I only recommend this if: * You are starving right this second.

  • Your wallet is feeling a bit light.
  • You just need a super-fast, cheap hit of that sweet Bulgogi flavor!
